While Google launched the cardboard project in last year's IO conference many were skeptical about it as it aimed at accessing virtual reality in an incredibly low price which seemed unrealistic but now the company has proven the project as it works really well when you try hand on it. The company's aim was to develop a VR tool that is simple, fun and affordable. With over 1 million VR viewers now the Company is aiming at building a new Cardboard design that fits smart devices up to screen size of 6 inches.
The new design also has a top mounted button that replaces the magnetic ring in order to ensure that Cardboard works with any smart device. Clay Bavor, VP of Product, told I/O attendees that "they'd be receiving these new DIY VR kits immediately after the keynote. And for interested VR developers, it's important to note the Cardboard SDK now works with iOS in addition to Android ".
Along with the new Cardboard design and iOS support Google also announced Jump a new Video Recording platform for creating and sharing 3D videos and it will be out this summer for selected developers. The company has made a 16 GoPro array by partnering with the GoPro for shooting 360 degree videos. The software stitches the video content and makes it seamlessly viewable even on the YouTube. It gives you a VR experience that is out of this world. Jump is the perfect software companion for Expeditions.
Google is also planning to take initiative to bring these VR experience in the field of education so that students can actually visualize things and also teachers can take up field trips anytime. Google did not reveal anything more about the Expeditions and the dates when the VR will be rolled out for schools but one thing is for sure is that the Company is taking this project very seriously.
