Aryabhatta(few words about aryabhatta)

     ARYABHATTA

Aryabhatta (476-550 A.D.) was born in Patliputra in Magadha, modern Patna in Bihar. Many are of the view that he was born in the south of India especially Kerala and lived in Magadha at the time of the Gupta rulers; time which is known as the golden age of India. There is no evidence that he was born outside Patliputra and traveled to Magadha, the centre of education and learning for his studies where he even set up a coaching centre. His first name "Arya" is hardly a south Indian name while "Bhatt" (or Bhatta) is a typical north Indian name even found today specially among the "Bania" (or trader) community.
Whatever this origin, it cannot be argued that he lived in Patliputra where he wrote his famous treatise the "Aryabhatta-siddhanta" but more famously the "Aryabhatiya", the only work to have survived. It contains mathematical and astronomical theories that have been revealed to be quite accurate in modern mathematics. For instance he wrote that if 4 is added to 100 and then multiplied by 8 then added to 62,000 then divided by 20,000 the answer will be equal to the circumference of a circle of diameter twenty thousand. This calculates to 3.1416 close to the actual value Pi (3.14159). But his greatest contribution has to be zero. His other works include algebra, arithmetic, trigonometry, quadratic equations and the sine table.
He already knew that the earth spins on its axis, the earth moves round the sun and the moon rotates round the earth. He talks about the position of the planets in relation to its movement around the sun. He refers to the light of the planets and the moon as reflection from the sun. He goes as far as to explain the eclipse of the moon and the sun, day and night, the contours of the earth, the length of the year exactly as 365 days.
He even computed the circumference of the earth as 24835 miles which is close to modern day calculation of 24900 miles.
This remarkable man was a genius and continues to baffle many mathematicians of today. His works was then later adopted by the Greeks and then the Arabs.

*THE BIOGRAPHY OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE *

Gandhiji ( father of the nation)

*Birth and Parents*
Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, at Porbandar. Mohandas or Mohan was youngest of the three sons of Putlibai and Karamchand Gandhi. The latter had been Prime Minister successively in three Kathiawar States. He was straight and true as steel, known for his steadfastness and loyalty. The little house were Gandhi was born is today the "Kirti Mandir"._________________________________________
*Early Influences*
Putlibai was a traditional Indian woman, devoted to her home and family, deeply religious and austere. These qualities left a deep impression on young Gandhi. Another powerful influence of Gandhi’s early life was seeing King Harishchandra, in the play, suffer for, but finally triumph in, his adherence to Truth. The boy Gandhi aspired to do no less._________________________________________
*Schooling*
At school, first the primary at Porbandar, and later the Albert High School, Rajkot, Gandhi showed no particular brilliance, played no games, avoided company. He read little beyond text books, but respected his teacher, though, even at his biding, he would not copy from his neighbour’s answers._________________________________________
*Kasturba and Laxmidas*
Marriage with Kasturba, at the age of thirteen, was almost play. But Gandhi began as a jealous and possessive husband; he wanted to make his illiterate wife an ideal one. The other person he was much attached to was his eldest brother Laxmidas. When their father was no more, it was Laxmidas who helped to educate him and sent him to England for legal studies._________________________________________
*In London*
Putlibai let Gandhi go abroad only after he vowed to lead a chaste and simple life. For a while Gandhi was tempted to ape English dress and manners. But soon he returned to simplicity. A vegetarian by tradition he soon became one by conviction, joining and working actively for the London Vegetarian Society. He was called to the Bar in June 1891._________________________________________
*The challenge in South Africa*
In 1893, Gandhi went to South Africa to handle a case. But though his legal work was soon over, he remained there for 21 years, fighting for Indian rights and defending indentured labour in low courts against discrimination. In this he was assisted by European staff and associates like Polak and Kallenbach._________________________________________
*Ashram Settlement*
In founding and running his Ashram settlement at Phoenix and Tolstoy farm, Gandhi was much influenced by Tolstoy and Ruskin towards leading a simple community life. The third of "the moderns" who impressed Gandhi was Raj Chandra, the Jain philosopher and intellectual._________________________________________
*Service in hour of need*
Gandhi combined his opposition to wrong with the compassion for the wrong-doer. During the Boer war and the Zulu rebellion he helped the Government at the hour of its need, by raising Indian Ambulance and Stretcher-bearer Corps which served close to the line of fire. Gandhi was awarded medals for this service._________________________________________
*The Indian struggle*
The Natal India congress founded by Gandhi in 1894, on lines similar to the Indian National Congress, and later the British Indian committee in the Transvaal fought against restriction on Indian trade, movement and residence. During the campaign against the ‘Black’ Registration Act, Gandhi lit a grand bonfire of thousands of the registration certificates._________________________________________
*The Tolstoy Farm*
The Passive Resistance Struggle was to be long-drawn-out. Thousands of satyagrahis suffered imprisonment, loss of property, trade. Tolstoy farm was built by Gandhi on land donated by Kallenbach, as a colony for housing satyagrahis families. They did farming, grew fruit, followed simple crafts and conducted school — all noble experiments in community living._________________________________________
*Gokhale*
The Great March: - Gokhale visited south Africa in 1892, and studied the Indian problems first-hand. He met government leaders and securing promise of relief counselled Indian moderation. But government failure to abolish the 5 poll-tax drove them to despair. In November 1913, Gandhi led the ‘Great March’ from Natal into the Transvaal, defying law._________________________________________
*The Martyrs*
After Gandhi, Polak and Kallenbach were arrested and jailed. Woman too courted imprisonment. Later the government released them and set up the Solomon commission of inquiry. C. F. Andrews and Person visited South Africa and interceded with the Government. Gandhi attend the unveiling of a memorial for Martyrs like Nagappan and Vilvilliamma._________________________________________
*The Mahatma Leaves*
The Indian relief passed, Gandhi decided to return to India. After receiving farewell tributes, the Mahatma left South Africa in July 1914. When in England, enroute home, the great war broke out. Gandhi helped to raise an Indian Volunteer Corps. In December, Gandhi and Kasturba sailed for India._________________________________________
*Voyage home*
On the voyage home, Gandhi wondered what was in store for him, he prayed "Lead Kindly Light". Back in India with Kasturba, clad in simple Kathiawadi clothes, Gandhi turned to Gokhale, his "Political Guru", for guidance. He was advised to closed study of scene, while refraining for making political speeches._________________________________________
*Hero’s welcome*
The man in South Africa, who had striven valiantly, through satyagraha, for his peoples' honour and human dignity, received a Hero’s welcome everywhere. He traveled widely north and south, mostly by third class of the railways. Visiting Shantiniketan to meet Gurudev—Rabindranath – Tagore – was like going on a pilgrimage._________________________________________
*Honoured by all*
In Madras Natesan described Gandhi as the embodiment of godliness and the wisdom of the saint and Kasturba as the incarnation of wifely virtue. In may 1915, Gandhi settled down at Kochrab, near Ahmedabad, where he founded the Satyagraha ashram. Honours came to him-the Kaiser-I-Hind and other medals for his ambulance services in war._________________________________________
*Champaran Satyagraha*
Outward trappings meant little to Gandhi. At Banaras he blamed the Princes for their love of finery. At Allahabad he declared material progress of little worth without morality. Gandhi's first satyagraha test in India came in Champaran, Bihar, in 1917 and it led to inquiry into the evil Indigo system and help to end it._________________________________________
*Sabarmati Ashram*
When in 1917 plague broke out at Kochrab, Gandhi moved his Ashram to Sabarmati. Hriday Kunj became his abode ; Kasturba lived in a separate Kuti, bound by her husband’s vow of brahmacharya. Close at hand were the grounds where Gandhi gathered Ashram inmates, morning and evening, for prayer._________________________________________
*Satyagraha again*
Lokmanya Tilak dominated Indian politics at this time. But, in 1918, Gandhi emerged into National Leadership through satyagraha – for remission of land revenue in famine-stricken Kheda district; also the Ahmedabad Mills-hands’ strike, during which he fasted, lest strikers weaken. At prayer meetings under a tree, he called for discipline and concern for duties, not merely rights._________________________________________
*Bitter Fruit*
The end of the great war brought India no freedom, only more repression. Gandhi called for country-wide hartal to protest against the Rowlatt Act Of 1919. In mosques and on beaches he preached Satyagraha; pacified rioters at Bombay and Ahmedabad; but Jallianwala in Punjab was to witness an unprecedented and cold blooded massacre._________________________________________
*Jallianwala Bagh Massacre*
People massed in thousands, to protest against Govt. repressive policy, at Jallianwala Bagh. Determined to "Make an example of them", the Government ordered troops to fire on the unarmed crowd. Hundreds died. Martial law and a reign of terror followed. Deeply shocked Gandhi returned his war decorations, decided to non-cooperate with a government that was evil._________________________________________
*Non-cooperation is Born*
The Indian National Congress at Calcutta approved of non-cooperation: boycott of law-courts, government educational institutions and foreign goods. Gandhi saw it as the only alternative to violence for redress of the Khilafats and the Punjab wrongs. The founding of Gujarat Vidyapith in November 1920 was a symbol of the national re-awakening._________________________________________
*Swaraj fund-Swadeshi*
"Swaraj in one year" was Gandhi’s slogan. Leaders of many shades came together, as at Madras, but few trusted Swaraj could came so quickly. The people rising to Gandhi’s call, raised a 10 million rupee memorial fund for Tilak who died on August 1, 1920. A year later a spectacular bonfire of foreign cloth ushered in the era of Swadeshi._________________________________________
*From Yerawada to Belgaum*
1922 saw an eclipse: following violence at Chauri Chaura, Gandhi suspended non-cooperation. Arrested for seditious writings for Young India and tried March 18, he was sentenced to six years, but an operation of appendicitis brought early release from Yerawada Prison. 1924 was to see him once again at the helm at a Belgaum congress._________________________________________
*‘Unity’ Fast*
In September 1924, Gandhi imposed on himself a 21 days fast to end Hindu-Muslim tension, an act of religion which taught him to love all equally. It restored peace in the riot-ridden country, brought all leaders together, led to some cleansing of hearts. It resulted in a communal truce._________________________________________
*Deshbandhu’s Death*
1925 was a year of calamity: Deshbandhu C. R. Das, Swarajist leader, died in June at Darjeeling where Gandhi had just spent some days with him. It had brought nearer, the Mahatma who preached non-cooperation, and Deshbandhu who gave fight to the Government to the councils. Disconsolate at his death, Gandhi wrote a touching obituary in the glow of the funeral pyre._________________________________________
*On many fronts*
1925-28 provided two landmarks of Gandhi’s leadership; Vaikom Satyagraha for giving untouchables use of temple roads, and the founding of All-India Spinner’s Association. For the rest the stage was occupied by Lajpat Rai, martyred during the Simon Commission boycott, hero of the Bardoli Satyagraha, Motilal Nehru, author of the Constitution Report, and Jawaharlal, champion of the "Complete Independence" resolution at the Calcutta congress._________________________________________
*Wheel of Time*
And so the Wheel of time turned on. Gandhi’s use of the bicycle- a rare performance in order to be punctual at a meeting – indicated the lengths he was ready to go. And his constant companion, the spinning wheel, remained with him wherever he went, an instrument which spun the destiny of the country and symbolised his identification with the poor._________________________________________
*Salt Satyagraha*
1929-30: "The Year of Grace". Gandhi was gathering his forces for onslaught on the citadel of authority. The "Salt Satyagraha" was not merely a protest against taxing the poor man’s diet, or a disobedience of the salt laws. In Gandhi’s eyes it was a "battle of right against might". While the world wondered, the "Dandi March" became the "first shot" in this unique fight._________________________________________
*Dandi March*
Small though the chosen band, its 200 mile march to the sea recalled the other "Great March" of 1913 Gandhi had led in South Africa. He had sent viceroy Irwin an "Ultimatum" before embarking on civil disobedience. On "bended knees" he had asked "for bread and received a stone instead". On the night of may 5, 1930, they stole up to him like thieves in the night and arrested him._________________________________________
*Truce and Release*
India was afire. Satyagraha, strikes, picketing, boycott of foreign goods and no-tax campaigns were the order of the day. Lakhs were jailed. Thousands suffered loss of limb, hundreds died on lathi charges, firing. Sapru, Jaykar helped to bring about a truce. Gandhi was released on June 25, 1931. While resting in Bombay, he took counsels with his associates, he wanted peace but with honour._________________________________________
*The Nehrus*
Drawn into the political struggle, largely under Gandhi's influence, Motilal and Jawaharlal occupied the centre of the stage. At Allahabad they had presided over and addressed meetings attended by leaders like Kripalani, Tandon, Malaviya. When in February 1931, Motilal died, Gandhi felt "Widowed", and said, "What I have lost is loss for ever". Jawaharlal was a rich legacy._________________________________________
*Karachi Mandate*
The congress met at Karachi in March, adopted a resolution moved by Jawaharlal and seconded by Badshan Khan endorsing the Gandhi-Irwin Pact. It reaffirmed the goal of "Poorna Swaraj", authorised Gandhi to represent it at the Second Round Table Conference in London. Congress also extolled the bravery of Bhagat Singh and his associates who were martyrs in the country’s struggle for freedom._________________________________________
*Way Clear for R. T. C.*
Official implementation of the Gandhi-Irwin Pact was partial. There was repression in the frontier province, tension in U. P. Gandhi stood by the pledge to honour the truce and acquainted Viceroy Willingdon at Simla with official branches. After a second settlement, in August, Gandhi saw the way clear for the R. T. C.; at Bombay the nation bade him speed on August 29._________________________________________
*In Quest of Freedom*
Malaviya, Sarojini Naidu, Madhav and Pyarelal- his secretary, Miraben and son Devdas accompanied Gandhi. On board S.S. Rajputana he was in high spirits, chatted with other passengers, made friends and played with children, held prayer meetings, spoke, examined the ship’s instruments, dozed on the sunlit deck, and most of the time plied the spinning wheel._________________________________________
*Friends Every Where*
At Suez, port side, Gandhi received Egypt’s greetings, met Indian deputations, talked to journalists. At Marseilles he met European friends, like Deenbandhu C. F. Andrews. Arriving in London on September 12, Gandhi and party proceeded to the East End, the quarter of the poor coal miners and factory hands, lived in their midst at Kingsley Hall, managed by Muriel Lester, his English hostess._________________________________________
*Meeting the people*
Scotland Yard had provided two top detectives to guard him, but he needed none. Wherever Mahatma went, children and women, simple folk and sophisticated gentry flocked round him, as when Charles Chaplin, the famous comedian, called. And it is on record that it was Gandhi who made him laugh._________________________________________
*Talking to Leaders*
Gandhi met many groups of intellectuals, social workers and students. Addressed many meetings. He visited coal miners cottages, east end children celebrated his birthday with candles and cakes, leaders of all shades of thought-social, political, religious- discussed India with him; for instance, the "Red Dean" of Canterbury, Dr. Hewlett Johnson._________________________________________
*Welcome in Lancashire*
Gandhi visited the cotton mills District in Lancashire, hard hit by foreign cloth boycott. Looms were idle, chimneys unsmoking, men unemployed, women miserable. But when he talked to them, explained the plight of India’s peasants, they understood him and even cheered him. And he took time off to attend the Dairy Animal show at Islington and to pat the prize-winning goats._________________________________________
*Futile Quest*
And in the midst of all his social calls, Gandhi attended to his main business, the Round Table Conference. He pleaded fervently with the British leaders to give his country freedom, to avoid parting of ways. But they did not listen to him and he left Britain’s shores empty-handed. On the way home at Villeneuve in Switzerland Gandhi met Romain Rolland, the French savant._________________________________________
*Fresh Ordeal*
1932: Returning to India, Gandhiji saw Willingdon’s Ordinance raj everywhere: close associates and colleagues were arrested. Soon he himself was taken to Yeravda Prison. In September he fasted against the Communal violence lying under the mango tree. He stirred the Hindu conscience, that led to the Yeravda Pact. On a second fast, in May 1933, for Harijan work, he was released._________________________________________
*From Sabarmati to Segaon*
In July 1933, after the solemn last prayer, Gandhi disbanded the Sabarmati Ashram. In September he moved to Satyagraha Ashram at Wardha. Henceforth, the morning walks were on Wardha’s plains. In November, he commenced his country-wide Harijan tour, starting from Nagpur, for rousing the masses to a sense of their duty in regard to the abolition of untouchability._________________________________________
*Tireless pilgrimage*
The story of Gandhiji is the story of his tireless pilgrimage throughout the length and breadth of the country for the emancipation of the dumb, downtrodden masses. The tour of 1934 had, for its aim, the upliftment of the "untouchable" whom he called the "Hari Jans" or the children of god._________________________________________
*The Blot of Untouchability*
Gandhiji addressed meetings, spoke to people everywhere of the blot of untouchability and the Hindu duty to remove it. When Bihar was devastated by the earthquake in January in 1934, he rushed there to organize relief, but he considered disaster God’s punishment for the sin of the Hindus._________________________________________
*Retirement from Congress*
In October 1934, at the Bombay congress he parted company. He differed from congress in the interpretation of the goal: Poorna Swaraj. For his was much more than independence. Means mattered as much as ends. The Congress session paved the way for the setting up the All-India Village Industrious Association._________________________________________
*Constructive work*
Village work, Swadeshi claimed most of Gandhiji’s time and attention. Jamnalal Bajaj, J. C. Kumarappa were among those who teamed up with him. He addressed constructive workers from different parts of the country, showed keen interest in such basic things as compost-making, vital for rebuilding the village economy._________________________________________
*Work and Prayer*
Harijan upliftment dominated Gandhiji’s mind; he held counsel with trusted social workers such as Thakkar Bapa. At the same time, he combined with thought and deed the act of prayer, leading the tallest of his associates to mass prayers in the Bhangi or Harijan colony. Meanwhile, the Government of India Act of 1935 was on the anvil._________________________________________
*Plague Relief*
Relief to the plague-stricken had always a special appeal for Gandhiji whether in South Africa or in India. In 1935, Borsad and other Gujarat Villages suffered an epidemic. With Morarji Desai, Sardar Patel and other trusted lieutenants, Gandhiji toured them, stressed on sanitation, and educated the people in the riddance of rats._________________________________________
*Body of Mind*
In his dynamic programme for the reconstruction of rural India, Gandhiji had the support of intellectuals like Nehru and Azad. While, in 1936, he presided over the Literary Conference at Nagpur and extolled the virtues of literature, he lost no opportunity to stress the dignity of labour, setting an example himself.

Some quotes of gandhi:

*  “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
  * “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”

How to find lost android phone

You lost your android phone?

you can now easily locate your phone and (in a worst case scenario) perform a remote data wipe. Read on as we show you how to activate the feature on your phone. Why Do I Want to Do This?

Whether you’re just prone to losing your phone in your house or you’re worried about data security if your phone is actually stolen, there’s no good reason to skip turning on the security features available through Android Device Manager. It’s free, it has next to no overhead, and you can access it to locate your device and/or remote wipe it from any computer you can log into your Google account from.

Even if you think you’ll never need it, it takes so little effort to turn it on that it would be outright foolish to not do so.What Do I Need?
To follow along with this tutorial you’ll need the following things:
  * 1 Android device running Android OS 2.2+
  * 1 Google account
Note: While Android Device Manager has been available to Google business account users for some time, Google only started rolling it out to consumer/standard accounts in early August, 2013. If Android Device Manager isn’t on your Android phone yet, check back in a few days to see if you’ve received the update.Turning On Android Device Manager

By default, the new Android Device Manager feature is turned off. In order to enable it, grab your Android phone and navigate to Settings -> Security ->Device Administrators.  This menu will be available to everyone, even if the update hasn’t officially rolled out to their phone. If your phone has received the update, you’ll see the following entry within the Device Administrators menu:

Go ahead and check the checkbox next to Android Device Manager. You’ll be prompted with the following security screen:

Normally those kind of sweeping powers would be a red flag, but in the case of this particular app we’re specifically using it to allow us to remote wipe our phone and change security settings. Go ahead and click the Activate button.
Note: Users on earlier versions of the Android OS may be required to individually check “Remotely locate this device” and “Allow remote factory reset” before accepting the changes.
Once the Android Device Manager has been activated, you can return to the home screen and resume using your phone.Managing Your Phone via the Device Manager Web Portal

Once you’ve set up the Android Device Manager on your phone, you can begin managing it from the Android Device Manager web portal, available at: https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager
. The first time you access the service you’ll need to accept an agreement to allow Android Device Manager to use your location data.

After that, you can select your device from the drop-down menu in the corner and perform one of three tasks.

First, using GPS/Wi-Fi location data from the phone, you can locate the phone. This feature is dependent on recent GPS data, and if the GPS/location functionality has been turned off on the phone for a period of time (say, several days), it will simply report that the location is unavailable.

Second, you can ring the device to locate it if it is in earshot. Even if your phone has the ringer turned off or set to vibrate it will switch to the default ringtone at 100% volume. This is the most practical feature of Android Device Manager as not many people routinely deal with device theft, but many of us are guilty of misplacing our devices.

Finally, you can remotely wipe the device. This function initiates a factory wipe on the device. The portion of the warning “We may not be able to wipe the content of the SD card in your device” is a bit ambiguous. Internal storage designated as /sdcard will be wiped. Removable SD cards may be wiped depending on the hardware/OS version. The business version of Android Device Manager has a specific wipe-SD-card functionality, which if not already deployed in the consumer version of Android Device Manager will likely be deployed in the near future._________________________________________

Why did we avoid rooting an android phone?

“Rooting” could mean causing a plant or cutting to grow roots, or when an animal turns up the ground with its snout in search of food. In this context, however, “rooting
” is the process of allowing apps to attain “privileged control” or “root access” within the Android subsystem. Almost all smartphones and tablets come with root access disabled — at least to you, the end-user. Ironically, the desktop or laptop computer that you use probably already has root
 access.
When we’re talking smartphones and tablets, “rooting” in Android is often compared to Jailbreaking in iOS. Though there are significant distinctions between the two, the end result is the same: being able to use your device how and where you want without your OEM, Carrier, or anyone else getting in your way.
Sounds great, doesn’t it? It is! It’s why I’ve advocated that usersunlock their devices and root them right away
! I still do. But let’s pause for a moment and look at some legitimate reasons why you might want to avoid rooting your phone.Current Versions Do A Lot
In the “olden days” of Android — you know, two or three years ago — there were a lot of things you couldn’t do with your stock device. Some people had NFC inside their smartphones — but were unable to use it because the OS didn’t let them. A lot of us wanted to take screen captures so we could include images of apps or settings in our articles — but that wasn’t easy to do, and usually required a 3rd-party app and root-level permissions. Tethering another device to your smartphone’s data plan used to be a no-no, but with a rooted device, you could do it with ease. If you wanted to use your camera’s flash as a flashlight, you had to have root! The list goes on.
Today, however, NFC is a featured component of many smartphones — no root required. Tethering comes built into the operating system (though some carriers take it back out again). The ability to take screen shots is built-in to the OS, and generally speaking, you can get an app that will let you turn your LED flash on and off without having to do any fancy unlocking. In short, many of the reasons that used to require rooting our phones to accomplish are now baked in to the operating system itself.
Do you remember my tragic “gravity event” with my last Nexus 4
? When my replacement arrived I didn’t root it. I’ve had it for two months now and am still running entirely stock. In “Joe the Android Guy” time-frames, that’s an eternity — and almost unheard of. In the past I’d run a week, maybe two before I’d unlock, root, and flash a custom ROM. Today, however, both my Nexus 4 and my Nexus 7 — the devices I use the most — are unrooted and running stock versions of Android.
Android has progressed so much that I simply don’t “need” root anymore.Might Let the “Bad Guys” in
Once your device has been rooted you’re always just a button-press away from letting some “bad” program do some “bad” thing on your device. On unrooted versions of Android, if a piece of software somehow ends up on your phone it usually just sends texts or make phone calls to “premium numbers” so the bad guys can drain your account. Without being able to attain root permissions, the extent of what they can do is severely limited — as it should be.
I’ve pointed out in the past that malicious software could theoretically exploit a vulnerability and obtain root on its own, but to my knowledge no apps have done this yet — excluding the apps that are specifically designed to obtain root for you.
Keeping your device un-rooted will likely keep the “bad guys” at bay, forcing them to prey on those who don’t read app reviews, and don’t pay attention to the permissions screen when they install an app
.
Of course, if you have rooted your device you’re probably running an app like SuperUser or SuperSU. Both apps will warn you when an app is requesting elevated permissions. While that’s good to know, it’s all too easy for an unsuspecting user to tap the “Allow” button without fully understanding what they just permitted the app to do.May Keep You From Getting Wanted Updates
Depending on how you go about rooting your device, you might end up preventing yourself from getting updates from your OEM or carrier in the future. To some this is a “feature” rather than a “detractor”. To others, they could be missing out on new features and enhancements — not to mention critical security patches.
Root, on its own, won’t likely block updates. Replacing your Recovery Image or flashing a custom ROM, however, will most assuredly interfere with the typical upgrade cycle.May Void Your Warranty
Some carriers and some OEMs won’t even talk to you if you go to them with troubles and they discover that your device is rooted. Not even I have been immune from this. I know, shocking, isn’t it?
Back in December 2011 I was playing with a new ROM, and loving the fact that I’d been able to hack Google Wallet onto my phone. Long story short: I locked my Secure Element and have been unable to use Google Wallet on that device ever since
. I called Google to see what could be done to fix the problem. They were happy and helpful, until it came up that I had rooted my phone. At that point they were done. It was broken and they weren’t going to do anything to even try to fix it. To this day they still haven’t.
That’s not too much of a problem for me. I was still able to use my device — just not Google Wallet. Ultimately I got a new device, and learned my lesson about the Secure Element.May Brick Your Phone
“Bricking” your phone is any process by which you turn a perfectly good smartphone into a perfectly good “brick”. “Bricking” your phone essentially means that you’ve ruined it and are unable to use it as a phone — so you have to get creative and try and find some use for it. Once your phone has been “bricked” it makes a good conversation piece, sometimes even a decent paper-weight. They’re so small and light today that a bricked smartphone doesn’t work well as a door-stop.
There are several levels of “brick”. Some can be recovered from fairly easily. Some need custom hardware to allow their resurrection. “Hard bricking” is usually terminal.
Why am I going into such detail about “bricking”? I’ve done it. Twice. In the process of trying to root two separate T-Mobile G1′s, I bricked them. Don’t think poorly of me though! Back in the day, rooting wasn’t nearly as easy as it is today, and the risk was much higher then than it is now. However, the risk remains. Rooting your device could brick it.What About You?
When you get a new device do you root it right away, or do you wait a while? Maybe you don’t root it at all! We want to hear from you! Head down to the comments and tell us why you root, or why you don’t. Also, be sure to include any stories of things that you were able to accomplish because you had a rooted device — and of course, share with us any horror stories of trying to root, but failing or bricking!p

You want to block ads on your android phone or devices

How to block ads:

f you're sick of giant ads taking up space on your tiny phone's screen, there are a number of ways to banish them from your phone. Here's how to do it.
While we generally support advertisements—after all, it's how us Lifehacker writers make our living—they can make browsing annoying on some sites, especially on a such a little screen (and they can make some apps very difficult to use). Which method you use depends largely on whether you're rooted or not, so we've rounded up the two best methods for blocking ads on your phone. For Rooted Phones
: AdAway
How to Block Ads in Android Browsers and Apps
By far the best ad blocking solution isAdAway
, which will block ads from most known sources, both in your browser of choice and in the apps you use. Just download it, start it up, and hit the "Download files and apply ad blocking" button. It'll download a few host files and merge them into your phone's, blocking those apps from ever reaching your device. You may need to reboot after you do this. You can also disable ad blocking at any time, but again, you'll have to reboot whenever you make changes.
If you have a particular site that's still showing ads, you can find out the domain of that ad (for example,ads.doubleclick.net and add it to AdAway's blacklist. To do so, open up AdAway, hit Menu, and go to Lists. Navigate to the Black tab, hit Menu, and tap the Add button. Type inads.doubleclick.net and click Add. Those ads should stop showing up after a reboot.
Similarly, blocking ads can mess with certain apps and make them unusable (The popular Words with Friends game is a good example). To whitelist those ads, go back to Menu > List and hit the White tab. Go to Menu > Add to add a new domain, and add the domain of the ads it's trying to show—in the case of Words with Friends, it would beandroidsdk.ads and mydas.mobi. Note that you can only add advertising domains on the whitelist, not the sites on which the ads appear. That is, if you wanted to whitelist ads on Lifehacker, you couldn't just addlifehacker.com to your whitelist—you'd have to addad.doubleclick.net, where our ads are hosted. If you ever decide to uninstall AdAway, remember to disable ad blocking first, otherwise your phone will continue to block ads with no way to turn it off.
Remember also that this blocks ads within apps. This can be convenient, but we recommend you support app developers you like, either by whitelisting their ads or by buying the premium version of their app. App developers gotta eat too.For Unrooted Phones: Browser-Based Ad Blockers
Unfortunately, if you aren't rooted, you don't have nearly as many choices. You pretty much have to block ads through your browser, and only a few browsers currently support this. Firefox is the easiest method—just download Firefox
, and add the Adblock Plus extension, which you can grab from the add-ons page in Firefox's settings.
How to Block Ads in Android Browsers and Apps
Opera Mobile
is the other choice. Reader Nitesh
discovered that you can create your own adblock filter for Opera with a simple text file. First, create a file called urlfilter.inisomewhere on your SD card (I put mine in Opera's folder), and copy the text from this pastebin page
 or inNitesh's original comment
. You can also grab updated filters <a href="this page
">here, though the pastebin page contains the full code you need to make the urlfilter.ini file recognizable. Paste that text it into theurlfilter.ini file on your SD card. It's usually easiest to do this from your computer, after plugging in your device and enabling USB mode.
Then, disconnect your phone and open up Opera. Type opera:config in the URL bar and search for "URL Filter". You should see an option to tell Opera where your URL filter file is. Tap that box, then hit the back button until you're at the root of your phone (which it recognizes as a simple /). Then go to /mnt/sdcard and navigate to the urlfilter.ini you just created. After a reboot, you should find that Opera is ad-free.
Sadly, there aren't more methods to block ads on Android, but these should help get most of you by. Got any of your own ad-blocking solutions we didn't mention? Be sure to share them in the comments.

How to gain weight

How to gain weight: People may be underweight due to various reasons
Inadequate feeding habits, prolonged meal time gaps, poor selection of foods, increased physical activity without increasing the food intake can lead to energy deficit, are a few of the major reasons for being underweight. Other reasons can be malabsorption due to prolonged illness, diseases such as tuberculosis
, cancer
, hormonal imbalances (hyperthyroidism) and eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa
 or bulimia.
How to gain weight: Healthy weight gain
Gradual weight gain is always advisable. An increase in 500 kcal per day can result in increasing the body weight by 0.5 kgs per week. Objective should be to restore a desirable weight/ ideal body weight according to one's age, gender and height. To rebuild body tissues, to maintain a good nutritional status and to maintain ideal body weight are a few reasons why healthy weight gain is important.
How to gain weight: Exercise
If you're indulging where food's concerned, beware of the inevitable skinny person's paunch. No matter what your skinny status, as you grow older, you will develop an unsightly paunch. To avoid this, you must endeavour to maintain a toned body. For this, exercise
is essential. Participate in a balanced mix of cardio, weight training, and flexibility exercises every day.
How to gain weight: Lift weights for lean mass
If you haven't figured it out already, you're going to be doing some heavy lifting in order to put on lean mass. The foundation of your routine should be the big compound lifts: Squats, deadlifts, presses (bench and overhead), pull-ups, rows, dips, snatches, power cleans, clean and jerks. These engage multiple muscles while triggering your hormonal response systems.
How to gain weight: Exercises for beginners
A
Squat 5x5
Pull-ups 5xFailure (add weight if "Failure" is becoming more than 12 reps)
Overhead Press 5x5
B
Squat 5x5
Deadlift 1/2/3x5 (your choice; deadlifts can be incredibly taxing, and with exhaustion comes poor form, so be careful; sometimes it's better to do a really heavy load for a single set)
Bench Press 5x5
C
Squat 5x5
Pull-ups 5xFailure
Overhead Press 5x5
Do this sequence every week (maybe Monday, Wednesday, Friday) and steadily increase the weight each session. Once you're making progress, feel free to add in other exercises like dips or more Olympic lifts.
How to gain weight: Healthy diet
You may take dietary supplement, but you need a balanced diet more. You need the right amount of protein, carbs and fats. Help yourself to nuts and dairy products. Protein is the key for muscle building; this will help you gain weight.
How to gain weight: Healthy heart
 and weight gain diet
Add pistachios or roasted channa to your diet. Make them your evening munchies, as they help you lower risk of heart disease. Other snack ideas include whole wheat or multi grain bread/ soy sticks with hummus or peanut butter. Opt for salsa dips and chutneys as they are high on fibre and very healthy. If you want to gain weight, you need to build an appetite; and while this might be a tad non-traditional, you can rely on wine as a hunger stimulant. A small glass of wine before your evening meal will help you appreciate your food a whole lot more. Also, avoid drinking water before meals and in between meals, you don't want to ruin your appetite.
How to gain weight: Eat less
If you eat in between meals, cut it out. They say you should eat three large meals or five to six small meals in a day. Eating less is more. Choose food with nutritional calories and increase intake of starchy foods like potatoes. Remember, the more junk food you eat, the more you deprive your body of healthy nutrients. A thin person who gorges on junk food will suffer the same unhealthy consequences as an obese person with poor eating habits.
How to gain weight: Indulge the right way
Often times, well meaning folks will tell you to eat cakes and other sugar-heavy desserts in order to help you gain weight. While normally this strategy works perfectly for some, for others it could just lead to visceral fat - a state of being skinny fat. Skinny fat essentially means that a person appears skinny on the outside, but has fat accumulated in the wrong places (around vital organs) on the inside. Besides, sugar-heavy foods deplete your body of whatever little nutrients it might be getting from other foods.

Tips for cricket fielding

Some tips for cricket fielding..

The Throwing Grip
Hold the ball across the seam, as this helps generate more back spin on the ball as it travels through the air so that it carries further.
The Throw
  * Take a big stride and establish a strong side-on throwing base, with your lead foot pointing at your target and the back foot at 90 degrees to it. Stay relaxed with your knees bent.
  * Bring your throwing arm back, point with your front arm at or slightly above your target.
  * Keep throwing elbow above shoulder height.
  * As you throw bring your non-throwing arm in towards your body and rotate/push your hips and shoulders through towards your target.
  * Your throwing arm should come through the line of your target as you release the ball.
  * As you throw you should feel a slight weight transfer from the back foot to the front foot, don’t forget to allow your body to follow through naturally once you’ve released the ball.
Aim to always throw the ball above the stumps, ideally to the wicket keeper or bowler on the full (with out bouncing) or with one bounce a few meters in front of the stumps, so that it bounces up above them.
To practice throwing is simply a case of repetitive practice of throwing at the wicket keeper or at a stump or set of stumps (if you’re practicing going for direct hits run out chances). Practice at different ranges and positions on the field.
Also practice under pressure situations. You could have batsmen running between the wickets and you have to field the ball and try to run them out by getting the throw in accurately to the keeper before they complete the run(s). Practicing under pressure will help you a lot when it comes to having to perform in matches, where stopping a single or a two could make the difference between winning and losing.
Reflect Catches  – Training Tips
Reflect catches are those where you don’t have time to think about catching the ball, but where your body responds to its training automatically, as its trained response is to try and catch the ball, such as those catches at slip or short leg, where there is only a fraction of a second to respond and take the catch.
To practice reflect catches there are a number of drills you can do:
For example, get three players, a few cricket balls and find some space on the out field.
  * One person sits on the ground with their legs out to the front and hands out ready to catch.
  * The other two players then alternately throw their ball (one at a time) to either side of the catcher, who has to try to catch the ball and return it to the thrower.
  * To make the drill harder, the thrower can increase the distance away from catcher with which they throw the ball and reduce the time between throws, so that the catcher is almost non-stop catching and returning and catching.
  * The drill then repeat itself but with the catcher moving up on to their knees, then squatting and then standing. Do a minute or two in each position before rotating on to the next person in the group.
This drill is great for reactions, speed and agility and gets very tiring for the catcher if done properly.
Other drills include using catching cradles; catching nets and the traditional one of having some one throw the ball at a batter who then deflects it to a group of fielders in a ring behind.
Fitness (very briefly)
Fitness is very important in cricket, just like any other sport, as physical and mental fitness are intricately linked. Being and staying fit will help you remain alert and responsive for long games and is especially important for batting.
Aim to develop a consistent training programme, try to run 3 or 4 times a week and do some circuit training or strength training to remain in good physical condition. Check out the Runners World website for running training programmes and tips which you might be able to incorporate in to your schedule and try the 4-Week Turbulence Training Fitness Programme
for strength training stuff. All the best,

Some app stores for android phone users

You want to know about other appstores.

Why use another Android app store?
There are actually quite a few reasons that you might venture beyond Google Play. Most of the alternative Android app markets out there offer something to set themselves apart. Here’s a quick rundown of the main incentives.
  * Free apps and promotions: You might enjoy a free app of the day, a discounted premium app, or some other money-saving offer.
  * App recommendations: You might want to uncover some recommended apps that don’t pop up in the Google Play top ten charts.
  * Curated list: You might want a smaller selection of app choices that have been filtered for quality or for a specific age group or purpose.
  * Localized portal: You might want an app store that specifically caters to your country.
If you are an Android developer, you’ll also want to consider alternative Android app stores in order to maximize your exposure and ultimately your income. What are the risks and problems?
The big risk is malware. In our Android app security basics
article, we recommended sticking to Google Play and avoiding third-party app stores. The security policy on different Android app stores will vary. Some will perform similar safety checks to Google, others won’t. If you are going to take the risk then consider installing one of the top Android security apps
 first.
You will need to go into your Settings > Security menu and tick Unknown sources to allow downloads of non-Market apps.
Other problems you may encounter relate to a poor user experience. There are also app stores that carry pirated versions of apps and games.
For developers, the problems are more complicated. The terms and conditions
may result in enforced promotions, the developer portal might be less than transparent, and updates can take longer to push out.Best alternative Android app stores
There are a surprising number of Android app stores, but we can safely say that many of them don’t offer much in the way of enticement. We’ll run through some of the top options here that actually offer specific benefits to draw you in and then list out some others at the end.Amazon Appstore for Android

Amazon Appstore
The highest profile alternative to Google Play is definitely the Amazon Appstore, and it’s the default location for Amazon’s Kindle line of tablets. It offers a much smaller selection of apps and games, but everything has passed Amazon’s quality control standards. It is polished and easy to use.
For consumers, there are two obvious advantages to using the Amazon Appstore. The free app of the day promotion has featured some great premium apps. You can also use the Test Drive feature to try out apps in your browser before you buy.
It is limited to the U.S. and a smattering of European nations right now (UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain).
For developers it could be a good source of extra income, but there have been rumblings about Amazon’s right to choose when to do promotions. Some developers have reported huge download numbers off the back of the free app of the day promotion, but no resulting increase in sales. You are also likely to do better with tablet optimized apps than smartphone apps in general.GetJar

GetJar Logo
You’ll find a huge repository of free apps here for various platforms including Android. It’s fairly basic, but apps are divided into categories and sub-categories to make it easier to find what you want. You’ll also find likes or dislikes and comments on each app from users. It can also connect with Facebook. On the downside, you will encounter sponsored recommendations, but they are clearly marked.
Through the GetJar Gold system and the GetJar Rewards app, you can discover apps tailored for your requirements and you can earn rewards that will give you premium apps and upgrades to your favorites for free.
GetJar’s clever draw is to offer premium apps to users for free to generate traffic and then monetize that traffic with advertising dollars. Developers might be tempted by the virtual currency tie-ins and the option to target new users with different kinds of promotions. It is possible to integrate GetJar Gold into your apps, and it has 50 million users. Be warned though, the submission process might take a while.Slide ME

Slide ME Android app store
This alternative Android app store has a global reach and a decent user base. It offers free and premium apps in various categories and they all pass through a quality control process. One of the attractions for users is availability globally and support for various payment options including PayPal. It’s also easy to filter your searches and you’ll find good app descriptions.
There is probably a greater enticement for developers because Slide ME offers the chance to target a wider international audience. Apps are more likely to stand out because the choice is more refined. Developers can set prices and choose to offer their apps for free. There is also a Slide ME ad network. It is even possible to get a greater percentage of the revenue generated by your app with Slide ME, than the standard 70 percent you’ll get in most places.F-Droid

F-Droid app store
The very specific focus of F-Droid is free and open source software (FOSS) Android apps. It’s pretty basic, but there is some categorization and the list is searchable. You’ll find a big selection of free apps here and they all promise no tracking, no ads, and no dependencies. It’s worth checking out for free apps, especially if you support the open source movement.
Obviously developers will only want to venture here if they intend to release their creations with no expectation of profit.Appoke

The focus here is on social recommendations and so there are Twitter and Facebook tie-ins. You can also share opinions on apps and see what apps friends are using easily. Most of the apps are free and, like with GetJar Gold, you can earn credits and use them to get premium apps. You can also buy apps with PayPal.
Appoke is still in beta and although it offers an accessible user experience, the apps on offer are quite limited. The social side of it is a good idea, but if your friends don’t use it then it won’t work for you.The list goes on
There are a lot more alternative Android app stores out there, but many of them have small user bases. For developers it’s always worth trying to widen the net and offer your apps in as many places as possible, but some of the smaller options are going to represent a pretty poor return for your time and effort. For users seeking apps, if a store doesn’t offer some unique hook to pull you in then it’s tough to see why you’d bother.
If you’re still looking for more Android app distribution options or sources then here’s a quick list:
Appia, App Brain, Aproov, Android Pit, Handango, Handster, Mobango, Opera Mobile App Store, Soc.io, Insyde Market, AppsFire, and there’s also the Baidu App Store in China, and Yandex in Russia.
If you have experiences, good or bad, with any of the alternative Android app stores mentioned, or even if you want to mention another one, please post a comment.

Shortcut keys for computer without using mouse

ALT+ SPACEBAR--opens control menu (like clicking on the symbol in the top
left corner of a window, from which you select (perhaps using mouse,
perhaps using arrow keys and enter) among restore, minimize, maximize,
close, etc)
SPACEBAR -- hitting this will finalize a selection of an item in a list or
an icon on the screen that's only half- selected, i.e., there's a box
around the name but full highlighting is not there. Also puts a checkmark
or big dot in a little box or circle for you to check one of several options.
ENTER -- will activate a selected item. Hitting Enter with a program icon
selected will open the program. with a button highlighted, will activate
the "button." It appears highlighted from the heavier line around it, or it
might look like a depressed button.

Hitting a letter key will take you to the first item in a dialogue box that
begins with that letter. I.E., in open file dialogue box, hit w one or more
times  to go to the "Windows" folder in the list of stuff that appears on
the C drive. This can save a whole lot of hand action.

CTRL+z -- undo
CTRL+y -- redo
CTRL+a -- select all
CTRL+x --cut
CTRL+c --copy
CTRL+v --paste
CTRL+p – print
CTRL+s --save

CTRL+ALT+DEL--reboots the computer – eventually. First, it'll tell you
what's hung up.
CTRL+esc-- same as clicking on the "start button" in the taskbar area of
the screen
ALT+F4 shuts down the selected program.
TAB--VERY USEFUL. takes you from one field to another, one "button" to
another, one icon to another etc.
SHIFT+TAB -- it tabs you backward
HOME – to beginning of line or far left of field or screen.
END --to end of line, or far right of field or screen.
CTRL+home -- to the top
CTRL+END -- to the bottom
PAGE UP -- moves you up in your document or dialogue box by one page
PAGE DOWN -- moves you down in your document or dialogue list by one page
ARROW KEYS--these will move you about the screen or dialogue box, or menu,
not just a document. Modifier keys like CTRL and SHIFT when pressed at same
time as arrow keys or page up and page down will perform selection and
larger movements. For instance, CTRL + right arrow jumps to next word, and
SHIFT+CTRL+RIGHT ARROW selects the whole word.
ESC -- to cancel, or get rid of something like box or window that popped up
when you didn't want it (or if you change your  mind) etc.
ALT + the underlined letter in a menu item carries out the action.

SHIFT+F10—like right click, brings up context menu
ALT+TAB—cycles through open applications
[ALT] + down arrow--opens up a "Drop down list" -those little arrows that
sit next to fields in which you must make a choice, for instance in the
"Look in" field of an "Open" dialogue box.
[ALT] + TAB        --holding down the [ALT] and hitting tab cycles you
through open applications.
Thus, to sign off windows 95: CTRL+ESC, UP, ENTER, ENTER.

Keyboard-only access to Windows 95

Full text
of the article on Keyboard-only access to Windows 95
1. Use Alt + underlined character to select a menu.

Or

Press F10 to toggle menu mode. (Choose your method!)

2. Press the underlined character to select an item on a menu.

3. Use the first letter to select file names from a list (e.g., in
Windows Explorer, on desktop, in folders.) This is often the fastest way
to move around a long file list.

4. Useful key combos to experiment with: Tab; Ctrl + Tab; Ctrl +
PgUp;  Ctrl + PgDown. Hold down these in combination with Shift key to
change direction.

5. Other useful shortcut keys: Spacebar; Home; End; Ctrl+ Home; Ctrl + End.

6. Task switching: Alt + Tab and Alt + Esc. The latter is not well known,
but indispensible.

7. "Delete" key often deletes an item.

8. Backspace key moves "up" one level in a directory tree. Works in
folders and with Windows Explorer. (See what I mean about lousy keyboard
interface? NOt exactly intuitive, is it?)

9. Press Spacebar to select an item, Enter to "double click."

10. Keyboard shortcuts that almost always work: Start menu: Ctrl + Esc.
Cancel: Esc. Exit: Alt + F4. Open, New, Save, Bold, Italic, Underline :
Ctrl O, N, S, B, I, U. Undo: Ctrl + Z or Alt + Bkspace.
