If you're setting up a blog to publicize your products, discuss issues in your field and connect with customers, you want your online space to reflect your company image and philosophy. By replacing your blog theme's default header with a custom graphic that you build in Adobe Photoshop, you can apply your logo, show a montage of product photos or a picture of your building, or build a mixture of color and effects as a backdrop for title text.
Step 1
Find the size of your theme's header area. You can display the live preview of your theme, including its default header image, and right-click on the image to copy it to the clipboard. When you switch to Adobe Photoshop and press "Ctrl-N" to create a new document, Photoshop presets the image size with the width and height of the image on the clipboard.Step 2
Create your Photoshop file at the target dimensions, using RGB color at 72 pixels per inch. If you want a white background, set the "Background Color" drop-down menu in the New dialog box to "White."

Step 3
Use Photoshop's tools and filters to fill your header file area with the images and effects you want for your blog. You can build a montage of photos and use layer masks to reveal only the portions you want visible. If you want a colorful look that doesn't rely on photos, use the Rectangle tool in Shape tool mode to create color blocks, and set the blend modes of your individual layers in the Layers panel to control the interaction of your colors where the layers overlap. Set type to add a text message to your header that's incorporated directly into the graphic.Step 4
Save your layered file in Photoshop's PSD format to preserve it for future editing or revision. To create the version you use on your blog, open the "File" menu and choose "Save for Web & Devices."Step 5
Use the GIF, JPEG or PNG file format for your header image. To compare your original file with the effects of your Web-output settings, use the 2-Up or 4-Up tabs at the top of the "Save for Web & Devices" dialog box. Choose an image preset to apply a prefabricated collection of settings you can adjust, or set the format options for your desired file type.Step 6
Click on the "Save" button to create your header. Use your blog dashboard to upload the file to your blogging platform, and then preview your blog with your new header.
